From Servant to Son
Part III…Friendship
Colossians 2:6 - As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him
In order to fully walk in Him we need to walk through four stages of Christian growth.
The first stage of our walk is our SERVANTSHIP stage.
Ø This is the baby stage of our Christian walk
Ø This is when we walk beneath God.
Ø This is our outercourt experience with many priests serving and sacrificing for the sins of Israel .
Those who move in this level of a servantship revelation have a saying which is, "You are saved to serve”.
Ø This sounds very good to the babe in Christ, who does not know any better, but in fact it is far from the truth.
The second stage in Christ is our DISCIPLESHIP.
Ø This is the child stage of our walk.
Ø This is when we walk behind God.
Ø The word which is translated “disciple” in the King James Version, translates to the word “student” or “learner”.
Ø This is our Holy Place experience with the hidden manna being taught to us through the light of the candlesticks and God’s five-fold spirit ministries of Apostle, Prophet, Pastor, Teacher and Evangelist.
At this discipleship stage we began to understand what Jesus was talking about when He said, “When He comes He will teach you all things and lead you into all truth, even the Holy Spirit”.
The third stage of our walk in Christ is FRIENDSHIP or the man stage.
John 15:15 - "No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.”
Ø After Jesus' disciples had been with Him and had been taught by Him for three years, He said to them, “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends.”
Ø It was time for them to cease to be servants and disciples and enter into friendship.
Ø When the great Teacher, the Holy Spirit, finishes teaching us, line upon line and precept upon precept, of our heavenly father's eternal plan for His Kingdom, we are then ready to enter into friendship with God.
There is a master, who has a great business, and he has a servant working for him at his machine.
Ø That servant does not know all about his Master's business, he only knows about his one machine, but he is faithful servant.
Ø He works hard, he is always on time
Ø He gives the master of the business a full day's work
Ø The master of the business sees his faithfulness as a servant.
One day the Master of the business lays his hand on his servants shoulder and says, "Come up higher."
He takes him up into a room where there is a great teacher who is commissioned by the Master of the business to teach him all about the business. The servant than becomes a disciple.
Ø Now he is faithful as a disciple.
Ø He never misses school
Ø He is always on time
Ø He studies hard
Ø He learns all about all his Master's plans for every department of the business.
One day the Master of the business says to this disciple, “Now I no longer consider you my servant, but my friend because a servant does not know what his master does, but I have shown you all things about my business”.
He takes him up to the front office and makes him a partner in the business.
For years I laboured as a servant in my Father's business only knowing one kind of work, soul-winning.
Ø I was faithful as a servant to the best of my ability.
Ø I taught dramas.
Ø I worked sound systems.
Ø I played on worship teams because I wanted to be faithful.
Then one day the Lord of the business said “come up higher” and began teaching me as a disciple.
Ø Here I received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit
Ø He moved me into a special room called the Holy place where this great teacher, the Holy Spirit, began to teach me all about my Lord's business.
Ø He moved me into a special room called the Holy place where this great teacher, the Holy Spirit, began to teach me all about my Lord's business.
Ø Just as Jesus said in John 16:14 "He shall take of mine and show it unto you.”
Ø There He showed me the wonderful truths in scripture.
I was faithful as a disciple and the great teacher, the Holy Spirit, began to show me my heavenly father's plans for His Kingdom, I heard His voice saying “come up higher,” and I entered into a Friendship with God.
When I entered into Friendship I thought that was the ultimate.
Ø He took away my shyness in front of people.
Ø He put words in my mouth to share his word with his saints and a small ministry watching over some of His sheep.
Ø I was very happy as I thought this was as high as one could go in God.
Ø I am a friend of God
Ø I am labouring together with God
Ø I am walking shoulder to shoulder with God.
When we are friends we walk beside Him, but when you are walking beside someone it is still possible to get one step ahead or one step behind and that is where most of us stay.
Then the Lord took me over into Colossians, the Sonship book, and showed me a higher walk than servantship, discipleship or friendship. It was found in the verse "As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him."
Ø When we are walking in Him, it is impossible to get one step ahead or one step behind, for we do not move until we are moved by Him.
Ø This is the walk God is seeking to bring each one of us to
Ø A walk in Him where we do not move until we are moved by Him.
Galatians 4:1 - Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all,
2 but is under guardians and stewards until the time appointed by the father.
3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world.
4 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
5 to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, "Abba, Father!"
7 Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
We are heirs to all that our Heavenly Father has, but as long as we are children we have the same privileges as a servant. Our Father cannot turn our inheritance over to us until He has taught us all about His Kingdom.
Therefore He must start us off as servants, then disciples, then friends, then Sons and one day soon our Heavenly Father will turn over to us all His Kingdom and rule, not over us or with us, but through us as Sons of God.
