From Servant to Son
Part I…Servantship
Colossians 2:6 - As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him
In order to fully walk in Him we need to walk through four stages of Christian growth.
1. Servantship – When we walk beneath God
2. Discipleship – When we walk behind God
3. Friendship – When we walk beside God
4. Sonship – When we walk in God
The first stage of our walk is the baby stage of our Christian walk. It is our Servantship stage.
When we are first born again we enter into the servantship stage.
Ø It is at this stage all we ever hear is work for God, work for God, work for God.
Ø We see ourselves as servants of God
Ø We call ourselves servants of God.
Ø This is because we only have servantship revelation. It's the revelation of law.
Ø This servant will minister in the area of soul winning or birthing babies, which is wonderful.
Ø Sadly though, many these Christians never go on into the Baptism of the Spirit and the working of the gifts of the Spirit, therefore, they never get beyond this servantship revelation.
Those who move in this level of a servantship revelation have a saying which is, "You are saved to serve”.
Ø This sounds very good to the babe in Christ, who does not know any better, but in fact it is far from the truth.
Ø We are not saved to serve.
Ø Our Heavenly Father did not call us out of the world and save us to be His servants throughout Eternity.
Ø He created us and called us and saved us to be Sons with whom He might have fellowship throughout Eternity.
Hebrews 3: 5 And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward,
6 but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.
Moses was faithful in all his house as a servant, but Christ was faithful as a Son over His own house.
There is a vast difference in faithfulness as a servant in the house and faithfulness as a Son over the house.
Ø Moses only demonstrated servantship faithfulness because he was not perfectly faithful.
Ø He fell short of perfect obedience when God told him to speak to the rock and he struck it instead
Ø Christ was faithful as a Son over the house and He demonstrated perfect obedience even unto the death of the cross.
Moses could never be anything but a servant, for he only had servantship revelation, the revelation of law
Ø But you and I do not live in Moses' day.
Ø We live in Christ's day, the day of Sonship revelation, which began when Jesus came two thousand years ago.
Ø Therefore, we are called, not for servantship faithfulness but for Sonship faithfulness.
Galatians 4: 1 Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all,
2 but is under guardians and stewards until the time appointed by the father.
3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world.
4 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
5 to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, "Abba, Father!"
7 Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
There is a man who has a great business, and he has a servant working for him in that business.
Ø That servant is only working for a reward.
Ø He doesn't care for the business.
Ø He's only working for his wages that he is going to receive on payday.
Ø He is only going to do just enough work to get those wages and not a bit more.
Ø Not only that, the head of the business must hire a foreman or supervisor to watch over him to be sure he does that much because he is only a servant working for his reward.
Ø He is only going to demonstrate or give servantship faithfulness.
Although there have been few Sonship messages, sadly, most of the messages churches have preached have only been servantship messages.
Ø This is why most only see themselves as servants
Ø This is why most Christians are only working for rewards they are going to receive in Heaven someday.
Ø They are only going to do enough to get those rewards.
Therefore, God has to have a supervisors or pastors watching over them.
Ø They carry on visitation programs just to drag them to Church
Ø They try to convince children that they need to give to God when the collection plate is passed right under their noses
When you have a son over the house, he knows he is the heir to the business.
Ø He works shoulder to shoulder with his father
Ø He does not work just for rewards, but because he is a son and he shares his father's concern for the business.
Ø He works longer than the regular working hours.
Ø He cares far more than that of a servant because he is a son over the house.
The Scriptures says “the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all.”
Ø There are many heirs to the Kingdom in the Church today who are still children, but thank God there are some heirs today who are growing into Sonship.
Ø Suddenly it has dawned on them that they are the heirs to the Kingdom of God .
Ø It is not just their Father's business but their business also, and the kind of Kingdom that they inherit depends on how good of care they take of it.
Ø When they see the fences broken and God's sheep going astray they don't have to have their Father preach or beg them to mend it. They just plant themselves in the gap and start mending fences.
Ø They do not have to have anybody beg them to pray or to preach
Ø They are willing to give to the Kingdom of God because they see the needs themselves, as Sons of God, and they are going to be faithful.
Children are never going to manifest anything but servantship revelations until they are finally led into Sonship revelations. A son of God does not walk in God because of any reward at the end.
A son of God walks in God because God is God and He is worthy.
